1.1.2 How You Use Mail Monitor

This book calls a piece of software monitored by Mail Monitor a network entity. You can specify how often entities are monitored and you can control the level of monitoring information displayed. You can display a range of information from success messages to warning and severe error messages, and you can set triggers for alarms in case of specific events. For example, you could set an alarm to warn you when the number of free disk blocks on a device falls below 10,000. In addition, you can monitor an entity continuously if you think there is a problem, and track messages on their way through the part of the network that Mail Monitor is monitoring.

You should note, however, that Mail Monitor simply detects potential or existing network problems and indicates the severity of those problems. Mail Monitor does not automatically solve problems in a network.
