3.5 Component Installation

Refer to the individual product installation guides for instructions on installing the components. Install the components according to the order listed in Table 3-2.

3.5.1 Installing Netscape Navigator Gold Version 3.03

Use the PCSI utility. First, read the release notes using the following command:

$ PRODUCT EXTRACT RELEASE_NOTES NS_NAV_EXPORT -
_$ /SOURCE=disk:[directory]DEC-AXPVMS-NS_NAV_EXPORT-V0303--1.PCSI -
_$ /FILE=NETSNAV0303.RELEASE_NOTES

Then install the product:

$ PRODUCT INSTALL NS_NAV_EXPORT -
_$ /SOURCE=disk:[directory]DEC-AXPVMS-NS_NAV_EXPORT-V0303--1.PCSI

The installation puts the Navigator executable file (NETSCAPE-JAVA.EXE) and the Java class library file (JAVA_301.) in SYS$COMMON:[NETSCAPE.ALPHA].

3.5.1.1 Using Java

You must make the Java class library file (JAVA_301.) available to Navigator. Copy JAVA_301. from SYS$COMMON:[NETSCAPE.ALPHA] to one of the following locations:

  1. The [.NETSCAPE] subdirectory of SYS$LOGIN. (By default Navigator looks for JAVA301. here first.)
  2. Any other directory.
    In this case, you must define the logical name NETSCAPE_CLASSPATH to point to this other directory and file name, minus the trailing period:

    $ DEFINE NETSCAPE_CLASSPATH DEVICE:[DIRECTORY]JAVA_301

Do not rename the Java class library file; it must be named JAVA_301. (no file type).
