2.2 The Configuration File

Settings that control Mail Monitor are kept as entries in a simple text file, named according to the operating system of the server: namon_ server.ini on DIGITAL UNIX and Windows NT systems, SYS$MANAGER:NAMON$SERVER.INI on all OpenVMS systems.

In the configuration file, the hierarchy is represented as a section name followed by a number of entries on separate lines. Example 2-1 shows an example [Entity] entry in a configuration file. Section 2.2.2 explains the details of this example, but here it is important only to understand how configuration details are recorded.

The example file contains most of the information needed to monitor entities, but you should check the information contained and edit it as necessary using the guidelines given in the following sections.
