Structure of this website

The OpenVMS online documentation website contains a subset of the OpenVMS documentation set. It is intended as a quick-reference site for users of Compaq Computer Corporation's OpenVMS operating system.

The site is a simple tree, beginning from the OpenVMS Documentation Page. This main page contains links to all available documents.

When you open a document, you are at the top of the document's title page. Scroll down a few lines, and you will see a linked Contents word in a larger font. Click on Contents to go directly to the document's Table of Contents. (You can return to the Table of Contents from any document page by clicking the Contents button.)

From the Table of Contents you can navigate within the document. You can go directly to any topic by clicking a linked heading, or you can go to the linked Index and navigate the document using the index entries.

Navigating this website

Within the website, you can navigate by clicking a hotspot or [button].

• A hotspot is a hypertext link to another location on the same page or to another page. Depending on your browser, a hotspot appears as a word in a different color or as an underlined word.

  This sentence has a hotspot that jumps you to the Navigating this website heading. To navigate within the site, click a highlighted phrase.

• A button is a text or graphical shortcut for moving around the website. Most pages include several text or graphic buttons at the top and bottom of the page. The buttons are as follows:

  Next	Within an online document, click this button to move to the next sequential page.
  Previous	Within an online document, click this button to move to the previous sequential page.
  Contents	Within an online document, click this button to jump to the document's Table of Contents.
  Index	Within an online document, click this button to jump to the document's Index.
  Begin	On the Table of Contents page, click this button to go to the first page of the document.
  or [Top of page]	Click this button to go to the top of the current page.
  or [Site home]	Click this button to go to the OpenVMS Documentation Page. This page contains the list of all available OpenVMS online documents.
  or [Send comments]	Click this button to go to a page that describes how to send comments to the documentation writers.
  or [Order documentation]	Click this button go to a page that contains a list of all available OpenVMS documentation and instructions on how to order books and CD-ROMs.
  or [Compaq site]	Click this button to go to the Compaq home page. Note: This button takes you out of the OpenVMS documentation website. You must use your browser's [Back] button or your history file list to return to the OpenVMS documentation website.

Searching within an HTML or text file

When you display an HTML file, you can search within that file for a specific word. Remember, the cursor will be at the end of the HTML file, so you may have to search backwards to find the word.

• On a PC: press [Ctrl]+F to display the search dialog box.

• On a workstation: press [Alt]+F to display the search dialog box.

Searching within a PDF file

When you display a PDF file, you can search withing that file for a specific word.

• On a PC: press [Ctrl]+F (or the [binoculars] button) to display the search dialog box.

• On a workstation: press [Alt]+F to display the search dialog box.

Sometimes you can't search a PDF document if your browser is running the Acrobat Reader. In this case, save the PDF document to your local system and use a standalone version of the Acrobat Reader to search the document.
