The PING scanning module for the Windows NT server sends PING
commands to any host or hosts you declare using the [Host
hostname]
section of the PING initialization file.
There is not, by default, any host that is automatically checked;
but when you specify a host, and (optionally) specify an IP
address in the format Address=IP address
, Mail Monitor applies default
values for the other command parameters as specified in Chapter 6. You can change these default
values by modifying any of the following optional entries in the
[Defaults]
section of the configuration file:
The size of each packet in the PING message.
The number of packets for the PING message.
The severity value for a problem, as defined in the note at the beginning of Section 3.3.
The syntax of the PING command.
If you want to change the PING command parameters in a way
that affects only a particular named host, add an entry to the
[Host hostname]
section. The entry in the
[Host hostname]
overrides the value given in
the [Defaults]
section.
