Overview - DCE Maintenance

Once you have performed the tasks required for planning, installing, and configuring your DCE system, you can go on to perform the tasks required for maintaining the system. The initial tasks of planning, installing, and configuring are performed infrequently, some only once. Maintenance tasks, however, are performed on a regular basis throughout the lifetime of your system.

Maintenance of a distributed system includes the following areas:

· Performance tuning

· Configuration control

· Security and access control

This topic summarizes some of the primary DCE administration tasks. The first subtopic tells you how to start up DCE. The remaining subtopics describe tasks that apply to the individual components of DCE. DCE component tasks are documented in detail in the OSF DCE Administration Guide - Core Components, OSF DCE DFS Administration Guide and Reference, and OSF DCE GDS Administration Guide and Reference.
