Operating System Services

DCE assumes that certain services are available through the underlying operating system, namely:

· Multitasking

· Timers

· Local interprocess communications

· Basic file system operations (VFS layer)

· Memory management

· Local security mechanisms (if appropriate)

· Threads (or the ability to use DCE Threads)

· General system utility functions
