3.4 Module-Specific Configuration

This section describes scanning modules for the following products:

The PING scanning module allows you to trigger (from the client) the sending of test messages from the scanning module's server to a system named in the scanning module's initialization file.

In order to reduce the time that the scanning module takes for a scan, you can reduce the number of hosts scanned, or the Packet_ Size or Packet_Number. As a PING test reports the average time taken for a test packet to be sent back from a system that is sent a PING message (and the average is based on however many packets the PING command specifies), reducing the size or number of packets in a test message reduces the accuracy of the test. Changing Packet_Size and Packet_Number is therefore a matter of system tuning.

Mail Monitor also provides scanning modules for the following products, which do not have configuration files that you can change:

This chapter gives details only of sections that are specific to a particular scanning module, and the scanning modules are divided into sections that relate to a particular operating system.

For a full list of all checks that a scanning module makes, together with the default values expected for those checks, see the chapter in Part III that gives module information specific to the operating system you require.
